We're Never Abandoned

“He found him in a desert land
And in the wasteland, a howling wilderness; He encircled him, He instructed him,He kept him as the apple of His eye.As an eagle stirs up its nest,
Hovers over its young,Spreading out its wings, taking them up,Carrying them on its wings.

Deuteronomy 32:10-11(NKJV)

What precious words of hope! How relevant these words must have been to the Israelites for when Moses wrote them, they actually were in a desert land, an empty, howling wasteland.

Have you ever been in that same type of place? You have heard the promises of God. You have seen Him do great and mighty things and yet there you are, still trudging across the desert sand and doing your best to scramble over the rough terrain.

God has not forgotten you anymore than He forgot the Israelites. In the Book of Exodus we learn:

21 And the Lord went before them by day in a pillar of cloud to lead the way, and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, so as to go by day and night. 22 He did not take away the pillar of cloud by day or the pillar of fire by night from before the people.

                 Exodus 13:21-22 (NKJV)

While God required them to be in the desert for season, the cloud and the fire not only guided them; they were visible evidence of the presence of God. That much is obvious but there is more. The cloud provided protection from the hot desert sun so they were able to travel, even in the heat of the day. The fire not only lighted their way by night, it also provided protection from their enemies (and wild animals) as well as warmth. If you have ever been out in the desert, you know it can get rather cold, pretty quick.

As you are trudging through "the desert", remember Deuteronomy 32:10-11. Though you might not see Him at the moment, God has surrounded you and is watching over you. He is guarding you as His most precious possession because that is exactly what you are. Like an eagle, He spreads His "wings" to take you in and carry you. Never forget that.

Blessings!!!
